Dairy Free and Happy! is a book aimed at children to help them understand their allergies, or could be used with classes of children or friends and family of a person with an allergy. The text is simple to understand and the pictures are bright, colourful and fun.
This is a lovely book that looks at children as children but also as an individual having an input into their own lives. It is positive and enthusiastic about childhood even when confronted by allergies so inspires an affirmative attitude to diet choices and lifestyle.
Like the author, I have Oral Allergy Syndrome and a gluten allergy and my children have found it difficult to understand. Although this book focusses on being dairy free, it is also relevant to those with other allergies or dietary lifestyle choices such as veganism.
There is also general health advice on keeping active and personal hygiene. This is empowering for children because it allows them to be open about talking about aspects of their life.
The book does state that parents and adults need to be kept updated but highlights the need for the child to adopt a confident attitude for their own safety.
Being allergic to dairy can sometimes be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be!
Dairy Free and Happy! gives practical advice and nuggets of wisdom to help you on a day-to-day basis. Learn how to shop at the supermarket, prepare for parties, what to do in an emergency, and little ways you can stay positive, healthy, and happy, plus much, much more.
With hope, happiness, and helpful coping strategies, this self-awareness book is a must-have for children who are allergic to dairy products. When applying these tips to everyday life, children and their families will find this book a useful guide and source of information.
